PAL is an acronym that stands for Pause, Actively Listen, and Learn. The PAL training is designed to help people learn how to have a back and forth conversation that is mutually satisfying to both people in a conversation. The training is designed for people whose interpersonal difficulties stem, in part, from their inability to have a conversation with people that goes back and forth, with each person getting to speak an equal amount of time. In other words, they talk pretty much continuously and don’t give others a chance to speak. Their conversational partners end up feeling put out and angry.
The good news is that it is not difficult to learn how to have a back and forth, mutually satisfying conversation. We will learn PAL in a group of at least four individuals, so that everyone has a chance to practice with another person in the group. We will meet 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on three consecutive Saturdays. There will be no charge for the first few trainings because PAL workshops are in a start-up phase and its leader, Seth Bernstein, will be seeking feedback to help him fine-tune the PAL trainings.
